HTC EVO 3D torn down, three-dimensional magic revealed (video)

So, it turns out that when you crack open the EVO 3D , pixie dust doesn’t pour out of the thing — disappointing, sure, but such is life. Thankfully, there are some interesting things to look at, however, like the dual-core processor and, of course, the cameras that let you take all of those awesome 3D shots of your pets. Wanna see more of the magic? How about a seven minute teardown video shot with a cameraphone? It’s not quite the manner of pro teardowns we’re used to seeing from the folks at iFixit , but there is a certain joy in watching a guy excitedly tear open his new toy. For the rest of you, we don’t recommend trying this at home — but if you do, definitely upload it to YouTube. Video after the break. SurfCube browser wins Microsoft Innovation Award, latest version packs YouTube punch (video)

If you’re feeling too boxed in with Internet Explorer on your Windows Phone , consider checking out SurfCube , which brings your browsing experience outside the box — literally. Since we last visited the app, an ad-supported version was introduced alongside the $1.99 paid version, allowing users to spin the browser without any commitment. This useful (and entertaining) functionality was enough to help the developer score a Microsoft Innovation Award for smartphone applications — a feat it has accomplished twice before. Fresh off its win, SurfCube 3.0 debuted with numerous bug fixes, performance improvements, and — perhaps most importantly — YouTube support. It also claims to have the best tab support of any WP7 browser, a point you can judge for yourself in the video just past the break. Android Market launches movie rentals, thousands of titles available to your PC, phone or tablet

Google just announced movie rentals in the Android Market at its I/O conference. Chris from the Android services team just hit the stage at Moscone and demonstrated renting movies on the Android Market from your phone, tablet or PC with a single click. “Pinning” mirrors the experience with apps and books, you can select it on your PC and download to the device in the background for offline viewing. Movies are live in the market right now, support on all Android 2.2 or higher devices is expected “in a couple of weeks” and tablets will get support bundled with their upgrade to Android 3.1. On the PC, it ties back to the recently expanded YouTube rental service with the same restrictions (30 days to watch, 24 hour window once you start watching) and pricing, making that per-movie VOD price a bit easier to swallow with its cross-platform support and we even spied a few HD selections for $4.99. Keep an eye on the liveblog for more information. Re: YouTube app on bottom 1/3 of home screen missing

It is a widget. Just go to that screen (where YouTube was) then open up the personalize screen (short cut is the paint brush, lower right), click widget, find the YouTube widget, tap It and now it should be back on that screen. You might have tapped it to long and at the same time you dragged it to the lower part of the screen, that removes it.

Very slow speed, Inspire 4G

Hello all, I’m having issues with my HTC Inspire through ATT. I’ve had the Inspire model for 6 days and I’m on my 3rd phone, the first two both had broken crackling speakers and one the mic stopped working. This third phone, the connection is ridiculously slow. Much slower than my 3G iPhone I upgraded from, my 3G iPhone in the same house, same applications, same area for Speedtest would get 1.2-2.1MBPS. My HTC Inspire gets 40kbps-1MBPS(after retesting about a dozen times).   Using speed test just a few, D 71              U 261 D 40              U 233 D 543            U 86 D 434            U 31 D 432            U 100 D 660            U 133 D 783            U 12     If I have full bars the connection is flaky. I stay in my house, 5 bars, and I can stream music/youtube just fine for a short while then it will have to buffer and buffer then it will go back to streaming good again both of these scenarios will last half hour to an hour. According to the ATT coverage map my home is in the red for best connection, my work place is in the red for best connection, most of my routes are 4 bars. I do not want to go back to the ATT store as it’s a royal pain. And now that I’ve seen a few Youtube videos of HTC Inspire getting much slower speeds than advertised and slower speeds than 3G I’ve come to the conclusion that ATT is simply false advertising and for some reason not allowing 4G phones to connect to the 3G. As I can put my buddies 3G iPhone 4 on ATT right next to mine and he’ll sometimes top 2.5MBPS while I’m sitting on 210 KBPS. Is anyone else experiencing this? Am I likely to keep experiencing this with a new HTC Inspire? I am getting to the point I’m going to switch back to iPhone, but I don’t like iOS and I don’t want to be behind the technological curb again for another 2 years(I got the 3G iPhone when it was being phased out).

More music videos now playing on Android YouTube app, more pre-roll commercials, too

Let’s get the bad news out of the way first: pre-roll ads are coming to YouTube on Android in a big way. Big G is adding the digital speed bumps to “tens of thousands of YouTube partner videos” starting now, but it’s for a sort of good reason: Katy Perry. Well, her and a bunch of other music videos, all appearing in the YouTube 2.0 app on Android, with the initial batch provided by VEVO. Music videos will be identified by a note icon and, while you’re watching one, you can get artist info and quickly view other tracks that are available. Right now this is a feature only available on Android but, with Google happily extolling that it drove a 300 percent growth in mobile video viewership in 2010, we’re guessing it’ll be coming to other platforms soon enough.
