HTC Trophy officially set to launch on Verizon May 26th

” Soon ” just got a lot more explicit: May 26th. That’s when the HTC Trophy arrives on Verizon Wireless, finally bringing some Windows Phone to the carrier and setting up for what will be a very busy day. Do you want some dual-core hotness in the Droid X2 ? Maybe some LTE lovin’ with Netflix in the form of the LG Revolution ? Decisions, decisions, but those who go the way of Microsoft will find themselves touching a 3.8-inch WVGA display powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 16GB of onboard storage. It’s $149.99 after the requisite contract fuss and mail-in rebate, small price for a phone that’s been officially deemed ready . Motorola Droid X2 official at $200: launching online May 19th, in stores May 26th (update: in some stores tomorrow)

Motorola and Verizon have finally stopped teasing us and have made the Droid X2 official. This is a 4.3-inch Android (2.2, to be upgraded to 2.3) smartphone with a qHD screen resolution and a dual-core 1GHz processor. An 8 megapixel camera with continuous autofocus and HD video recording graces the back. The X2 will cost the usual $200 on contract and will be available to buy online tomorrow, May 19th, before making its way out to stores a week later, on May 26th. Leap past the break for the full PR. Interestingly, we’ve also spotted the close proximity of the USB and HDMI ports on the side of the new X2. That arrangement is reminiscent of the one on Motorola’s Atrix , where the two connectors served to hook that handset up to its laptop and multimedia docks. We don’t know whether the Droid X2 will fit into the accessories designed for the Atrix, but it looks sure to be strapping itself into a dock of some description in the near future. Update: NVIDIA has confirmed that its Tegra 2 chip is the heretofore unnamed 1GHz dual-core chip inside the Droid X2, which just happens to be Verizon’s first dual-core smartphone. Update 2: A little birdie tells us you may be able to pick up this bad boy in person in some stores as soon as tomorrow (May 19th). Your mileage may vary, but let us know in the comments if you manage to buy one. Motorola Droid X 2 turns up on Moto and Verizon sites, confirms qHD screen and 1GHz dual-core processor

Hey Motorola, your unannounced phone is showing. The Droid X 2 is spending this morning hanging out on the bright and airy support pages of motorola.com, though you may also spot it sneakily listed alongside some compatible accessories on vzw.com as well. Yes, the leaks are now happening from official sources, too, indicating an imminent landing for what we’ve confirmed to be a dual-core 1GHz Android smartphone with qHD resolution on a 4.3-inch display. Those long-rumored specs were revealed by the Droid X 2′s user guide, which Moto has kindly provided at the link below. So thoughtful! LG Revolution revisits FCC, reminisces the good times

The LG Revolution passed through the FCC’s vigorous testing as the VS910 in March, but the device had so much fun it decided to take a second trip to the labs. Upon perusing the docs we learned that this version of the VS910 is a completely identical device, with the exception of some additional Mobile Hotspot modes and power reductions. The listed changes are mainly related to LTE, which hopefully means LG will have a solid battery comparable to the Droid Charge rather than the power-guzzling Thunderbolt . A second sweep through the FCC could be an indication that launch is close; given the recent history of delays on other LTE-equipped phones, however, forgive us if we’re just a tad bit concerned about these changes occurring so close to the eleventh hour. If you’re just as fond of digging through FCC documents as we are, head to the source links below. Droid Charge to finally light up on Verizon Wireless tomorrow (update: official!)

Our testing of the Droid Charge got off to a bit of a rough start thanks to Verizon’s wee tiny LTE outage that just so happened to hit at the same time as the phone. Thanks (at least in part) to that, the official launch of the device was delayed, and while we still don’t have confirmation of why or just how long the delay was supposed to be, we do have multiple tips from multiple lovely readers in multiple positions at Verizon telling us the phone will be properly hitting stores on the 14th. We’re working on official confirmation but, for now, it sure looks like tomorrow you’ll be able to mosey on over to your local VZW outlet and get yourself $299 worth of LTE and OLED. Update: We just got official confirmation from Verizon that the phone will be available tomorrow in-store and online tonight! Details in the PR below. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in] Continue reading Droid Charge to finally light up on Verizon Wireless tomorrow (update: official!) Motorola Droid X2 ready for May 26 launch?

The skeptics in us are not ready to call this one confirmed yet, but we are beginning to see information trickle in about a possible launch date for the Droid X2 . Droid-Life uncovered possible promo materials discussing the entrance strategy for the X2 , in conjunction with several of the phone’s specs. These docs strongly indicate May 26 is the magic day for a full-scale assault, with early orders allowed as soon as May 19. We don’t see any major surprises in specs — there’s a dual-core Tegra 2 1GHz processor, 4.3-inch qHD screen, 8MP rear camera, and 1080p HDMI-out video, to list off the highlights — although we are excited to see Gingerbread may be in the mix here, indicated by the ever-so-subtle blue bar seen on the phone’s screen. We hope you can understand our hesitation, though, since an unproven spec sheet from Pocketnow suggests we should only expect Froyo. No way of knowing who will win this little argument, but you know which one we’re rooting for. Check out another leaked image after the break. Verizon pushes update to HTC Thunderbolt, remains mute on LTE and videocam issues

Heads-up kvetchers — Verizon is now rolling out an update for the Thunderbolt, its pioneering LTE handset that’s been plagued by an unfortunate series of woes. Of course, this is the same fix we’d reported earlier , which promises improved 3G connectivity, better organization of SMS and MMS messages, and quicker GPS load times. Sadly, Verizon is eerily silent about whether this update also addresses those troublesome hotspot cycling and video capture issues, so we’ll just remain hopeful until we learn otherwise. There’s no download for this one — it’s going to be automatically pushed to your handset — and once you receive it, we’re hoping you’ll share your experience in the comments. Isis mobile payment system to work with Visa and MasterCard, shelving plans for its own network

When AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon came together to create the Isis mobile payment system , they touted a standalone service, powered by Discover’s payment network, that would revolutionize the way we make small purchases on the move. Well, the revolution is still on schedule , apparently, but the big trio is now being said to have made a concession in reaching out to the incumbent leaders in this field, Visa and MasterCard. The Wall Street Journal cites multiple sources in reporting that Isis has turned into a less ambitious “mobile wallet” project that would seek to let you use your Visa or MasterCard account via your NFC-capable smartphone. As far as the consumer is concerned, it’s still the same swipe-to-buy proposition, but the move was apparently necessary for Isis “to avoid falling further behind” in the race to corner this developing market. We’d say it’s encouraging to see these guys showing a bit of swiftness — it’s about time the rest of the world caught up to Japan . Verizon’s Droid Charge expected to invade Costco, beckons with free ravioli samples

The Droid Charge, our recently reviewed silent knight for Verizon, is expected to blaze into stores this week now that its retail embargo has lifted. Of course, this news comes like a blast of cold air following news that the handset would be indefinitely delayed . Android Central shares all the juicy details (thanks to a gutsy Costco employee), with the warehouse club expecting shipments to arrive on Thursday. As a side note, if you’re intimidated by the $300 price tag, Costco’s inventory screen suggests it will sell the phone for $250. Of course, given Verizon’s hesitancy in bringing this LTE device to market, any additional hiccups wouldn’t exactly surprise us, but if you’re willing to brave those warehouse crowds and there’s nary a Charge in sight, at least there’s plenty of tasty morsels to nibble on. Droid Charge review

We’re still shaking our heads and sighing longingly at the performance of Samsung’s Galaxy S II , a phone that wowed us in Europe but likely won’t be coming to American shores for some time — and who knows what it’ll look like when it does. But don’t get too down, dear reader, because here comes another slice of Samsung and this slab has that same 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display tucked in there. It’s a little less slim, a little less classy, and a little less quick than Sammy’s latest world-conquering wunderphone, but the LTE-equipped Charge is a proper contender in its own right. Read on to see why. Continue reading Droid Charge review Droid Charge review originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 02 May 2011 13:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink
