iPhone 4 prototype surfaces on eBay: A+++ condition, would buy again

And with that, the tradition continues. Every year or so, it seems that an iPhone prototype of some description manages to find its way onto eBay, and just over a year after the first iPhone 4 prototype made its way into public view , the precious item you see above is now available on a public auction site. To our knowledge, this is the first iPhone 4 prototype to be offered for sale on eBay — at least from someone who actually appears to be legitimate and in possession of the device he / she claims to own — boasting an etched ‘DF1692′ label in the lower right, omitted volume button markers and a mysterious ‘XXGB’ label around back. Unfortunately, we’re told that it can’t be activated through iTunes, and popping in an AT&T SIM did the seller little good. ‘Course, at $810 and rising, we highly doubt such trivial matters will deter collectors from ponying up. Hit the source link to get your bid in — you know, before Apple’s henchmen convince Mr. Donahoe to pull the plug. iPhone 4 prototype surfaces on eBay: A+++ condition, would buy again originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 03 Jul 2011 18:25:00 EST. Nokia’s first Windows Phone: images and video, codenamed ‘Sea Ray’

Ok, this one’s odd. In fact, we didn’t believe the images until a video just surfaced showing Nokia CEO, Stephen Elop, foolishly asking a crowd of people to “put away their cameras” for the unveiling of something “super confidential,” codenamed “Sea Ray.” Naturally, a few people ignored the plea for “no pictures please” and, indeed, leaked the new device out to the blogosphere. What is it? Why, it’s Nokia’s first Windows Phone. While it looks nearly identical to the just announced N9 , the different LED placement on the back (in line with the same 8 megapixel Carl Zeiss lens ) confirms its a new device as does the additional hardware button (for shutter release, we presume) along the side. And the fact that it’s running Windows 7 Mango seals the deal. See a few more shots and a snippet of the video after the break, then hit up the source to see the video uncut. Nokia N9 to ship in Sweden on September 23rd, saith awkwardly translated release

As much as we love Google Translate , we’re pretty sure the Nokia N9 won’t be packing a side of gorilla flavored desert when it ships later this year — but that Swedish release date? Sure, we’ll take a salty look. According to an official press release from European carrier 3 Group, Nokia’s flagship handset should be landing in Sweden on September 23, 2011. The PR goes on to tout the N9′s buttonless interface, trio of home screens, and (when properly translated ) Gorilla Glass AMOLED screen. Hit the source link to see the PR, in all it’s auto-translated glory, for yourself. webOS Skype integration revealed in screenshots

We know you’ve all been losing sleep, wondering what exactly Skype integration on webOS will look like. Well, tonight, you should sleep like a baby, knowing you’ve gotten a solid peak at how the Pre 3 will hande the VoIP service. Similar to Google Voice on Android, you’ll be able to either route all international calls through Skype or force is to ask every time you press that precious dial button. We also know that it will be able to handle video calls and, at least on the O2 network in Germany, both voice and video chat will be available over WiFi and 3G. You’ll also be able to initiate sessions from either contacts or the messaging menu, so there’s no need to fire up a separate app. Now, we just need HP to get this out the door and for Microsoft to work out those reliability kinks . Check out the source link for the full-sized images. webOS Skype integration revealed in screenshots originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 19 Jun 2011 19:20:00 EST. T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide spotted in the clear, sans case

We’ve already seen it turn up in a few blurry shots , and seen it pictured a bit more clearly inside a case , but we now finally have our first good, unobstructed look at T-Mobile’s still unannounced myTouch 4G Slide . What’s more, the tipster that provided the shots to TmoNews also offered up a few quick impressions, saying that the keyboard was “amazing” and roughly comparable to the T-Mobile G2 , and that the phone itself is “surprisingly fast” but a bit heavier than the G2. Hit up the source link below for a closer look. T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide spotted in the clear, sans case originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 19 Jun 2011 14:57:00 EST. Apple expands patent complaint against Samsung to include more devices

Keeping track of all accusations flying back and forth in the ongoing patent brouhaha between Apple and Samsung? Then we’re afraid you’ll have to update your scorecards again, as Apple has now amended its complaint with some even stronger language than before, and broadened the scope of the devices involved in the suit. According to Apple, the Droid Charge, Infuse 4G, Nexus S 4G, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy S II and a handful of other Samsung devices are all also infringing on the patents in question, which now total eight in all (two previously included have been thrown out, but three new ones have been added). As for that stronger language, Apple’s now saying that Samsung “has been even bolder” than other competitors in copying its products, and that it’s created “products that blatantly imitate the appearance of Apple’s products to capitalize on Apple’s success.” Hit the source link below for FOSS Patents’ complete breakdown of the amendment. RIM announces Q1 earnings, says it’s shipped 500,000 PlayBooks (update: 4G PlayBooks delayed)

RIM’s just announced its Q1 earnings, including $4.9 billion in revenue and $695 million in profit. Perhaps even more anticipated than those numbers, however, are the ones involving actual devices, and the company’s now revealed that it “shipped” around 500,000 BlackBerry PlayBooks during the quarter, while phone shipments totaled 13.2 million — it didn’t get specific about actual sales to consumers. Those earnings are on the low end of forecasts, and RIM says that the slowdown it saw in the first quarter will continue into Q2, which will apparently result in an unspecified number of layoffs and a lowered forecast for the rest of the year. Head on past the break for the official press release, and hit the source link below for some more detailed numbers. Update: On the earnings call, co-CEO Mike Lazaridis painted a bright future for his company’s tablet, but then said, “We’re soon to release native email and BBM and our Android player later in the summer, to be followed in the fall with 4G PlayBooks for WiMax, LTE, and HSPA+.” Did you catch that? In the fall. We hope this doesn’t put a damper on anybody’s summer plans . Motorola Droid / Milestone 3 gets previewed, Verizon release finally nearing?

The Motorola Droid 3 hasn’t exactly been doing the best job of staying under wraps, and it (or the international Milestone 3 variant, to be specific) has now landed in the hands of Chinese website xda.cn , which has provided what’s surely the most extensive look at the phone to date. That includes some additional confirmation of specs like a 4-inch qHD screen (of the PenTile variety, it seems), an 8 megapixel camera, HDMI out and a 1500 mAh battery, as well as what appear to be the first benchmarks of the phone and its dual-core OMAP 4430 processor, which is apparently slightly hampered by a mere 512MB of RAM. In other Droid 3 news, Droid Life notes that the device has turned up in Gameloft’s compatibility listings for its Android games, and says that its hearing that Verizon is now targeting a July 7th launch. That’s obviously still far from confirmed, but it seems safe to bet that a release can’t be too much farther off now. Hit the source link below for xda.cn ‘s complete preview.
