Droid Bionic seemingly clears the FCC, may finally be headed for (US) glory

Is this the Droid Bionic, eager to make its US debut at long last? After a false start , it’s looking more and more like Motorola’s next superphone could be inching ever closer to that elusive “summer release,” with a new FCC filing showcasing a cellular communications device with EVDO, LTE, 700MHz radios, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n WiFi and an inductive charging battery cover. ‘Course, a few things are still under wraps until August 7th, so it’s fairly impossible to tell with any level of certainty what handset we’re peering at. The clues most certainly add up, however, and if you were thinking of holding out just a wee bit longer, maybe the outline above is just what you needed to find patience (and all her friends). Skype 2.0 hotfix enables video chat on Sprint’s Nexus S 4G

Looks like some of the Skype crew might’ve had a sleepless night to please owners of the Nexus S 4G . If you’ll recall, June 30th saw a major update to its Android app enabling video chat on four devices; although the Nexus S was part of the club, its door was locked for Sprint’s 4G variant. That’s quickly changed, however, as the team’s set loose a hotfix to grant it access — this despite initially stating we’d have to wait for a “future release .” You can grab the app from the Android Market if you haven’t yet, and be sure to let us know how it goes in comments. Oh, and for those anxious Thunderbolt owners? We’d recommend not holding your breath until after the 4th of July holiday. RIM gets handed open letter from disgruntled employee, quickly responds in kind

One of the blessings — and curses — of this World Wide Web is that it creates a forum for open discussion, where we can communicate anything that our heart desires and feel like someone is listening to us. BGR published an open letter reportedly written by a senior executive at Research in Motion , chastising upper management for its inability to make bold business decisions as it continues to consistently lose market share. The anonymous author listed out several suggestions on how their company could improve its status and work its way back up to the top of the smartphone totem pole. As it turns out, the disgruntled employee was successful in that RIM published a response to the anonymous communication. What exactly were this employee’s suggestions, and how did the folks in Waterloo respond? We’ll break down the letters after the break. Droid 3 accessories leaked, Moto’s new slider gets wireless charging back plate and more

So, you’ve read the rumors , scoped out the leaks , and circled multiple dates on your calendar — just to cover all of your Droid 3 bases. You can now add a catalog of accessories to the stack of intel for this Motorola slider, including an inductive battery door (most likely harnessing the power of Qi ), and a smattering of cases and screen protectors. Also thrown in the mix is a 1930mAh extended battery so you can fuel a marathon of South Park reruns and take full advantage of the last week of unlimited data from Verizon . Although knowing about the accessories is nice, we’d prefer to find out the important stuff… ya know, like how much Big Red’s new Droid will cost. HTC Wildfire S review

Following the commercial success (and technical disappointment) of the original Wildfire — which featured a miserly 528MHz CPU and QVGA display — HTC has returned with the Wildfire S ($290). Like the Desire S and Incredible S , the company is sticking to its formula of providing incremental updates to stay competitive for 2011. Not only is this little one sporting improved hardware, but this time it’s strutting around with Gingerbread. Will this be HTC’s budget-line breakthrough, or will it fall face first into the land of mobile misfits? For the answer, check out the full review after the break. GMC showroom app tells you where to pick up your dream SUV, doesn’t help with down payment

Ever felt the need to customize vehicles and search dealer inventory, right from the comfort of your smartphone? Us neither, but here’s the General with another app to whet our appetites. While certainly not the first of its kind, the GMC showroom app for iOS (coming soon to Android), allows you to specify drive-type, trim, and both exterior / interior colors. Once content with your selections, you’re shown nearby dealers carrying exact replicas of your magnificent taste. Unfortunately for us, the app makes no mention of the closest EN-V . If SUVs are you’re thing, however, have a peep at the free app at the source link below. Nokia’s N950 demos MeeGo Harmattan in marathon video

Still obsessing about Nokia’s N950 — you know, the sexy developer-only MeeGo device you can’t have? Before you let Elop rain on your parade , indulge yourself with an exhaustive 17 minute video from Thailand, dutifully documenting every nook and cranny of Espoo’s ill-fated OS. The long-winded film tours the dialer, browser, and gives a peek at a plethora of camera settings — like ISO, aspect ratio, and timers — that we didn’t get to see on the N9 . Also making an appearance are maps with turn-by-turn navigation, what appears to be a document viewer, and a Facebook app. Go on, have a gander, and dream about a luscious MeeGo future that might have been. T-Mobile announces myTouch 4G Slide, aims to take smartphone photography to new heights

Well, we’d seen plenty of pictures of T-Mobile’s new myTouch 4G Slide over the past couple of weeks, and now it’s official. T-Mo officially pulled the wraps off its newest handset, and it’s packing a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor and a 3.7-inch WVGA Super LCD screen. As for software, the slick slider comes with some tasty Gingerbread slathered in Sense 3.0. There’s also an 8-megapixel shooter that does low-light photos with a wide-aperture lens capable of f2.2 — just like that new Nokia N9 that has us all hot and bothered. The camera also has burst mode for snapping rapid fire photos, takes HDR pictures, and does 1080p videos, too. It’s slated for a July release, so we won’t have to wait much longer until we can indulge our inner Ansel Adams. Such fantastic smartphone photography is all yours for $199.99 on a two year contract, and there’s a video of the phone and a smattering of other details in the PR after the break.
