Samsung Galaxy S II said to be Verizon-bound in July

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, so when it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S II , our tiny American hearts are getting rather sick of all the love we’ve been experiencing lately. Computerworld’s latest rumor may be just what we need to stay sane for another month, though; it cites an unnamed Verizon spokesperson who mentioned this Fascinate follow-up, which will likely be known as the Function , will be coming in for a soft landing sometime in July, though no specifics were offered. The Galaxy S II is already being sold in Europe and Asia and blends a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, Gingerbread, dual-core 1.2GHz CPU, and many more top-of-the-line specs into one sleek and gorgeous package. If the July window is accurate, it means Verizon could be one of the first US carriers out of the gate with the phone. This is great news for the carrier that was, of the four national powers, dead last in getting its model of the Galaxy S to market. We’re anxiously awaiting word from a Verizon spokesperson for additional comment and will keep you posted — if our heart hasn’t popped out of our chest by then. T-Mobile G2 not long for this world, per leaked document

We’d like to think that good phones — like soldiers — don’t die, they just fade away, solemn and proud, with a faint tear rolling down the cameraside cheek. This appears to be the case for T-Mobile’s G2 , which seems content to quietly disappear as younger and fresher handsets are prepped to take its place in the near future. It’s no longer anywhere to be found on the carrier’s site, and a leaked document (shown above) has surfaced that mentions the phone’s inevitable demise. If the G2 is truly nearing EOL status , we suspect T-Mobile is ditching it to make room for newer QWERTY Android phones like the MyTouch 4G Slide . Regardless, if you have any inkling to get the G2 before it completes the path to obscurity, now would be an ideal time to lace up the running shoes. T-Mobile might launch Samsung Exhibit 4G and Gravity Smart June 22nd?

Millions of schoolchildren may be getting ready for three months of lazy summer days, but T-Mob’s just starting to get its hustle on. Samsung’s Gingerbread -equipped Exhibit 4G and Froyo-laden Gravity Smart have been officially confirmed for sometime in the month of June, but all is quiet about the exact date. If this leaked screenshot above comes to fruition, though, it means we’ll be seeing these two phones hit the shelves on June 22. The Exhibit 4G will tempt us with access to T-Mobile’s 21 Mbps HSPA+ network, while the Gravity Smart looks to be a splendid entry-level QWERTY slider. The pricing for either phone is still anybody’s guess, but at least the possibilities have been narrowed to $100 or less — a good idea, since it wouldn’t take any sales away from the Sensation 4G if it were any higher. Sharp gets mysterious, may bring Android-based QWERTY to AT&T?

We’ve heard nothing but crickets from Sharp in the US after the release of the FX , a snoozer released on AT&T last summer. Nothing fresh has made its way into stores in a very long time — unless you count the Aquos 007SH clamshell that hit the FCC last week — so our interest was piqued after examining a new image that shows off an unnamed QWERTY slider phone from the same company. It reminds us a lot of the FX, actually, except with much smoother edges. We were also intrigued to discover that the mystery handset has a set of standard Android buttons, which would be a welcome upgrade for Sharp. The source responsible for the image mentioned it’s bound for North America and uses 850 / 1900 3G connectivity; if the phone hits the US, the bands indicate it would become the latest addition to AT&T’s Android lineup. We’re sure the Pantech Crossover wouldn’t mind a QWERTY-sliding friend to sit next to. Droid Bionic benchmark reports PowerVR GPU, new SOC inside?

A very strange thing popped up on mobile graphic benchmarking site NenaMark the other day — an entry for the Droid Bionic. Now, it would be very easy to fake this test, and you’d be right to be skeptical given the incomplete score and the fact that it’s reporting PowerVR’s SGX 540 GPU, instead of the Tegra 2 we saw at CES . But, let’s not be too hasty — we heard back in April that NVIDIA’s mobile chip wasn’t playing nice with Verizon’s LTE. Perhaps when Motorola said it was delaying the Bionic to incorporate “several enhancements” it really meant “rebuilding the phone with a more LTE friendly CPU.” Both Samsung and Texas Instruments use the SGX 540, and Moto has previously turned to TI’s OMAP for the Droid, Droid 2, and Droid X. Then again, a single, suspiciously low benchmark score isn’t the most convincing basis for a rumor. ASUS to unveil a phone-docking tablet at Computex?

We love teasers, but the wait can be unbearable sometimes. Luckily, all it takes is a tweak in the URL to uncover ASUS’ upcoming Computex teaser pics ahead of time, as discovered by our eagle-eyed reader Anas. As you might have already figured out, the image on the left — which just went live — seems to be just a reminder of the Eee Pad MeMO’s June launch, though the words “A Tablet That Jumps Out at You” could also imply a device bearing 3D functionality of some sort. Maybe ASUS managed to upgrade said 7-inch Honeycomb tablet just in time? We shall see. But the real meat here lies in the remaining image, which is scheduled to close the loop on the “Pad or Phone” teaser campaign this coming Sunday. What’s new is merely the intriguing line “How about Both?” below the old text, accompanying the silhouette of what appear to be a large tablet and a smaller phone-like device. Could this mean ASUS is toying with the idea of an Atrix -like docking combo, except the lapdock is instead just a tablet? We could well be stretching here, but hey, ASUS does say it wants to “break the rules,” right? Stay tuned as we’ll find out more at Computex 2011 next week. Evidence of webOS netbook and keyboard-less phone pop up in developer logs

Well this is interesting: a webOS dev spotted a pair unnamed devices in his log files — one sporting a 1024 x 768 screen and a non-sliding keyboard, and the other a smartphone with no physical QWERTY input. Don’t look so surprised: it was all but confirmed by leaked training materials that webOS was coming to netbooks and HP has already announced its intention to bring desktops and laptops into the fold. Of course, this could also just be a TouchPad connected to a certain special keyboard . All we know is something bigger than a phone with physical keys is out there running an unannounced version of the OS dubbed Nova Dartfish. The second mysterious “device” showing up in the logs may be that keyboard-less handset that posed for Mr. Blurrycam back in April. Whatever it is, it’s running webOS 3.0 and has a measly 480 x 320 screen like the Pre 2 — so it’s certainly not a high-end smartphone. The logs also reveal that neither is packing a removeable battery, which is sure to disappoint some of you. If you prefer your rumors delivered with lots of quotation marks and colons the full log reports are after the break. Unannounced Samsung ‘Hercules’ headed to T-Mobile, bearing demigod-like specs?

The Samsung Infuse 4G is a beautiful 4.5-inch tabletphone, but it’s not for the spec junkies of the world — a single-core processor and Android 2.2 just don’t impress such folk these days, regardless of actual performance . However, This is my next reports Samsung’s cooking up a $350 handset that ticks all the boxes on the superphone list — a beast of a smartphone it’s tentatively calling the “Hercules.” Mind you, we’re still in rumor territory, but feast your inner speed demon on the possibility of these: a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8060 processor (the same as the HP TouchPad ), a 42Mbps HSDPA radio , 1GB of RAM, 16GB of flash storage and Android 2.3, along with the same 4.5-inch 800 x 480 Super AMOLED Plus display as the aforementioned Infuse 4G. The same whispers say it’ll have a 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, MHL support and NFC , and should play for T-Mobile… assuming the buyout doesn’t succeed. Our existing smartphones are already preparing to seethe with jealousy.
