HTC Sensation 4G hitting mid-June for $200?

Oh, the sweet smells of summer: surf, sunscreen, barbecue, Gingerbread. We’ve known all along that HTC’s Android 2.3-packing smartphone was set for release at the “beginning of the summer,” and thanks to some loud-mouthed Google AdWords , we’ve seen June 8th floated as a possibility. Those who understandably doubt the word of search-based text advertisements, take heart: it’s shaping up to be a big weekend for Sensation 4G leaks. First TmoNews got its hands on a Target placard pricing the snappy dual-core Snapdragon handset at $199.99, for what appears to be a June 12th release, and then the site snagged a shot of internal T-Mobile documentation that confirms the earlier June 8th date. Why the discrepancy? Well, it certainly wouldn’t be unheard of for the carrier to give itself a head start, and surely Target wouldn’t mind timing its own release up with its Sunday circulars. In both cases, it looks like the phone’ll be spending a fair amount of time beneath beach umbrellas. HP Touchpad and Pre 3 pricing revealed… by Playboy Magazine (update: just estimates)

Hey, we’re growing kind of close to that ” summer ” release window for HP’s marquee mobile devices, aren’t we? Playboy Magazine sure thinks so, as its latest issue (June) comes with pricing for the Pre 3 and Touchpad , information we haven’t yet heard from anywhere else. The 3.6-inch smartphone with a sliding keyboard is expected to land at the industry-standard $200 on contract, while its 9.7-inch tablet brandmate should make itself available for $500 without any subsidies. These numbers are stated authoritatively, as if already known, though we’d still urge a note of caution until HP itself blurts the prices out. Skip past the break to see evidence of the Touchpad pricing as well. Update: False alarm, people. The author of the Playboy article — yes, Playboy reads Engadget, apparently — got in touch with us to say that the numbers quoted were just price estimates rather than concrete insider intel. Oh darn. T-Mobile G2 free on contract for a limited time, Android buyers have never had it so good

Want one of the best Android handsets around, equipped with a dandy keyboard and some pseudo-4G internet connectivity? Taking the leap into Google’s mobile world just became that little bit easier as T-Mobile has decided to strip off the last remaining $50 on its G2 contract price and set it loose for free on two-year deals. This will be a quite familiar sight to our European readers, but premier Android handsets rarely, if ever, occupy such sweet price points in the US. Let’s hope it’s a harbinger of happy things to come. [Thanks, Dani S] Update: This pricing is only valid between now and January 20th , so if you want in, better do it soon. HTC 7 Pro arriving on O2 Germany ‘next week,’ priced at €569

Last we heard of the HTC 7 Pro, it was taking a casual stroll through O2 Germany’s website , throwing around boasts that it’ll be on sale come January 2011. Well, guess what? That promise has just been reiterated by O2′s German Twitter stream, which says that the 7 Pro will be on sale next week for an unsubsidized price of €569 ($735). That’s available via O2′s usual MyHandy payment plan, where you dish out €29 in advance and then pay off the phone in equal monthly payments over two years. We can’t imagine HTC leaving the rest of the world sitting idly by, twiddling their QWERTY keyboard-loving thumbs, so look out for this WP7 handset to filter through to your local market some time soon. AT&T jacking some no-contract smartphone prices to keep pace with new early upgrade fee

If you thought that the newly-increased $200 early upgrade fee for existing AT&T customers looking to re-up their handsets was painful enough, turns out the company seems to have swept another price increase under the rug at the same time. In the latest in-store displays valid for the period ending November 6, a bunch of smartphones are showing no-commitment (that is, no-contract) pricing anywhere from $100 to $150 higher than they were previously. Why? To make sure that the early upgrade price is still less than (or equal to) the no-commitment price, since it wouldn’t make any sense to charge a current subscriber more for hardware without a contract than it would a new one. Here are some examples: Palm Pre Plus : $299.99 before, $399.99 now HTC Aria : $329.99 before, $429.99 now Sony Ericsson Vivaz : $279.99 before, $429.99 now Palm Pixi Plus : $229.99 before, $379.99 now Motorola Backflip : $249.99 before, $349.99 now Some pricing remains unchanged — the Samsung Captivate , for instance, which is still $499.99 — but that’s simply because the new line price plus the early upgrade fee are still well less than that rather hefty sum. At any rate, it’s a bummer that AT&T is penalizing people who just want to buy a phone without signing up for a contract here… and it’s pretty hilarious to see ancient hardware like the Backflip go up by a hundred bucks this late in the game. T-Mobile G2 priced at $199 with contract, $499 without, by latest leak

Been wondering how much T-Mobile’s first HSPA+ phone will set you back? Why, it’s that most generic of all smartphone prices: $199 with a two-year commitment or $499 without. To be fair to T-Mo, the G2 was one phone that it could plausibly have upmarked to, say $249, as Sprint has done with the Epic 4G , but nope, it’s landing squarely in the middle of the well beaten path to smartphone sales. There is the dreaded specter of a $50 mail-in rebate to deal with, but we doubt it’ll be enough to dampen anticipation for what’s looking like the next great Android slider phone.
