Netflix, Foursquare, and LinkedIn Android apps expose your password

Here’s a little tip for app developers: encrypt everything , especially passwords. Security firm viaForensics fed some popular iPhone and Android apps through its appWatchdog tool and found that Netflix, LinkedIn, and Foursquare all stored account passwords unencrypted. Since the results were first published on the 6th, Foursquare has updated its app to obscure users’ passwords, but other data (such as search history) is still vulnerable. While those three were the worst offenders, other apps also earned a big fat “fail,” such as the iOS edition of Square which stores signatures, transaction amounts, and the last four digits of credit card numbers unencrypted. Most of this data would take some effort to steal, but it’s not impossible for a bunch of ne’er-do-wells to create a piece malware that can harvest it. Let’s just hope Netflix and LinkedIn patch this hole quickly — last thing we need is someone discovering our secret obsession with Meg Ryan movies. INSPIRE default email app won’t work with Gmail

When I got the phone I set up my 2 accounts, no problem.   But a week ago it started telling me it can’t authenticate my accounts because the password is wrong. The password is NOT wrong, I even tried changing it at gmail.com and my phone STILL gives that error. So now I don’t get email anymore, and the gmail app itself apparently doesn’t notify you when you get new emails, so I don’t want to use that.   What is the point of a smartphone if I can’t get my email???   Anyone else have this problem?

Call barring settings password?

I’m going to Europe for work and wanted to use my Inspire for data only (purchased a data package from At&t). The phone has a call barring setting on it so that incoming calls can be blocked (so I would not get charged roaming fees). This setting requests a password that no one seems to know what it is. I tried all the default ones (1111,2222,etc). I had a long, frustrating conversation with At&t CS and they didn’t have any idea what the setting was, let alone the password. Does anyone have any insight on this? Thanks.

Can’t connect to my WiFi at home

Recently, I bought the LG Thrive GoPhone and I can’t connect to my WiFi at home… I tried so many times but it’s not working. When I put the password for our WiFi, it looks like it’s authenticating but then it disconnects and does nothing but says “searching” and that’s it. What else do I need to do? I have another Droid phone and that one has no problem connecting :( . I like this phone but the not able to connect on my wifi is getting on my nerves.   Any help/tips?

Re: lg gw620 not connecting to internet

Non-AT&T phones will not connect to AT&T data/mms on their own and need to have the server information put into it. You will need to find the menu to input this, but this should get you up and running. I use these settings for G1 users that bring their phone to AT&T   Name: whatever_you_want_the_name_to_be APN: wap.cingular Username: [email protected] Password: cingular1 MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com MMS port: 80 MCC: 310 MNC: 410

HTC Tilt 2 – New ROM – gmail e-mail problem

Another issue with the new ROM.  Frankly, it could be an independent problem but I thought that I would throw this out to the forum for help.  I can no longer receive e-mails from my gmail accounts.  When I do a send/receive I get the Incoming e-mail password screen.  I’ve obviously checked the password numerous times.  I have deleted the e-mail account, set it up as a POP3 or IMAP account, checked and unchecked the SSL settings, tried via 3G and wifi.  I can receive these accounts as IMAP and POP3 accounts on my desktop.    Any thoughts?   Thanks!
