EVO Shift 4G getting Gingerbread, Swype on June 20

Shift owners, you didn’t think you were chopped liver, did you? On the heels of blessing the EVO 4G with Gingerbread, the Shift 4G is about to get some Android 2.3 lovin’ of its own. According to this leaked page of instructions sent in by an anonymous tipster, the package includes not just Gingerbread, but Swype , a downloads application, and a fix for apps that haven’t been able to stream media properly. Officially, the update’s coming on Monday, though it looks like impatient folks should be able to manually update their phones starting tomorrow. Let’s just hope it’s a smoother transition than when the EVO 4G stepped up to Android 2.3 — we got a deluge of tips from disgruntled readers who found the update had rendered Netflix unusable. Droid Charge update brings personal hotspot back in time, adds improvements

Boy, it sure has been a fun ride for Samsung Droid Charge fans. Since the beginning of this month, said LTE phone’s been plagued by a rather silly bug: its mobile hotspot feature only works if you set the date to some time in May. Thankfully, Verizon has now released an update that’ll bring the device back in time for some hassle-free hotspot action, so that TARDIS of yours can be stowed away for now. Also added in the package is a whole stash of enhancements here and there, including boosted battery life during voice calls, better browser performance, new email folder structure, improved GPS performance, and many more goodies. As usual, anticipating owners can keep an eye out for the OTA update notification, but feel free to chill in May if you’re enjoying the vacation. Sony Ericsson boosts Xperia Arc and Play to 2.3.3, includes Facebook integration

Well, Sony Ericsson might just deserve a gold star for effort. A week ago we reported that a possible rollout of the long-rumored Facebook integration update would come to select Xperia series phones this week, and we’re seeing the process begin today. The recipients of this particular push are the Arc and Play, though it will come to all new Xperia devices down the road. While the download includes Android 2.3.3 , the major focus is on “Facebook Inside Xperia,” another way for you to sync your social media with other aspects of your phone, such as contacts, calendar, and photo gallery. Other improvements in the package include WiFi stability, improved battery performance, HD video recording performance (Arc only), and bug fixes. Don’t stress if your phone hasn’t seen the update yet; Sony Ericsson says it’s rolling it out gradually due to issues with individual markets and carrier branding. No specific timeframe was given, though the company mentioned that “it can take a while.” Should you be one of the lucky recipients to get it today, however, sound off in the comments below. Re: Poor Warranty Replacement Experience on HTC Surround Windows Phone (Why I’ll be Leaving AT&T

Thanks for both your comments.  I feel like I need to update everyone on this situation, in the hopes that people realize what a scam AT&T/HTC’s warranty service has been.   So it’s been one week, and the phone still hasn’t arrived.  In that time, I’ve realized I’ve been lied to twice:   First, AT&T/HTC apparently use a mail expediter who takes the replacements to the nearest post office for delivery.  So , when the person I spoke with at the warranty center told me that they would overnight a phone to me on the 3rd, it meant they would put it in the mail after a few days.  He fully knew this when he was talking to me.    Second problem, and a really big deal, is that AT&T’s expediter tracking service says the phone was delivered this morning.  The Post Office has the package listed as out for delivery at 8:31 this morning and delivered at 8:34.  Think about the timing of that - 3 minute delivery?  Fishy.  It wasn’t in my mailbox, and it wasn’t at my front door.  I’ve been home all day.    Now when the warranty person read me the terms and conditions, he told me that if I don’t return the broken phone within (I believe) 14 days of receiving the new one, I’m going to be charged something like $500.  Imagine after all of this what they’re going to tell me when I call them and tell them that the replacement never arrived.    I am calling the Post Office first thing in the morning Monday, and then AT&T after that.  I have no idea what to do after that.  If there is actually anyone at AT&T that reads these things, please tell me what to do to get what I paid for in October.
