Hi, I looked around on multiple Droid forums, and haven’t really found anything related to the issue I am seeing, so I am not sure if I am dreaming, or …. I was trying to cut down on data usage (when roaming), as the Droids seem to be extremely hungry ! 1. I had auto-sync still enabled, but disabled News sync’ing, and Stocks sync’ing (ie, the green icon is not there anymore for those two)    With that, Stocks don’t get updated anymore (as expected), and the last sync date is ancient (also as expected).    However, the News still get updated, and the last sync date is also being updated, based on the scheduled defined (ie 4h or, …). So even though I unchecked News, it still updates them !!!    Also, even though I have Weather still checked, the last sync date of the Weather is not being changed. But when I go to the Weather application, it is being updated properly. Only the sync date. 2. I disabled auto-sync all together …. and tada ! … News is STILL being updated, based on the schedule. The others (Stocks, Weather, …) are not. What is wrong with the News ? Has anyone noticed that, or am I doing something wrong ?? Thanks !

You’d like to think that any Android device launching these days would come equipped with an absolute bare minimum of Eclair , but that’s not the case; Dell’s Streak , for example, will be coming out of the gate with Android 1.6 — and seemingly so will LG’s LU2300 Optimus Q. We were just handed this rather interesting spec sheet that says the phone’s loaded with 1.6 on no uncertain terms, a stark change from LG’s official (and someone unhelpful) line that it may or may not launch with 2.1. At the very least, we’d hope that an upgrade is in the works — but hey, at least it comes with LG’s trick Air Sync service, which is a pretty sweet deal. [Thanks, Seth G.] Update: LG’s Korean-language press release from a few days ago matches up with the specs they’re showing in South Korea right now (pictured), so it’s confirmed — 1.6 at launch, 2.1 later in the Summer. Thanks, Kunal G.! LG Optimus Q launching with Android 1.6? (update: yep!) originally appeared on Engadget Mobile on Fri, 28 May 2010 12:29:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink

For a company with as rich of a reputation for landscape QWERTY sliders as HTC has, you’d think they’d be tripping over themselves to release a truly high-end Android phone with a keyboard, but not so much — the closest they’ve come so far would be the midrange myTouch 3G Slide , and that puppy ain’t even out yet. We broke the news last night about three seemingly new names for upcoming HTC devices — Vision, LED, and Glacier — and Dutch site Tweakers.net is now reporting on a user agent profile for the Vision that lists the device featuring that mythical holy trinity: WVGA display, QWERTY, and Android. Furthermore, they’ve got the director of HTC Benelux on record saying that they’re planning more Android phones with keyboards — so that’s a Good Thing to hear at a time when huge slates seem to be stealing the show in every segment of the market. With the Nexus One , Desire , Droid Incredible , and EVO 4G all alive and well, we think these guys would be well-served to play with other form factors for a minute or two, yeah? HTC ‘Vision’ finally bringing high-end QWERTY to Android? originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 21 May 2010 14:02:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds . Permalink
