Brenda, I’m pretty new here and also new with my HTC Inspire, but I might be able to help you with this. From the Home Screen, tap on “Menu” Select “Settings” The second entry from the top is entitled ” Wireless & Networks”. Tap that. Select “Wi-Fi settings” That will show you all of the wi-fi connections available within reach in your area, and you should be able to recognize your wi-fi by its name. I am assumming that you have service from Comcast, and your own home wi-fi router. When you see your wi-fi name, tap that. You will be given an opportunity to connect. You will be asked for your WEP key and you must be sure to select the correct channel ( 1 through 4 ) If in doubt, look at your wi-fi router and see what channel is being used. When properly connected to your wi-fi, you will see a symbol with a dot , half surrounded by parts of a circle. ( reminds me of what it must look like if you’d look directly down from on high on an amphitheater ) This will appear at the top middle ( slightly right of middle ) of your home screen every time you are connected to your wi-fi system. At that point you will not be using your data from your phone provider. I hope this helps. If not, I’m sure that some more qualified individual on the forum will jump in. Good luck. You’ve purchased a great phone. IMO Hanagan Wheaton, IL.

Consortium including Apple, EMC, Ericsson, Microsoft, RIM and Sony snags Nortel patents for $4.5 billion
July 1st, 2011
jedwan News that Google had competition for a bundle of patents being sold by bankrupt Nortel Networks surfaced a week ago and now it’s official; a consortium of companies including Apple, EMC, Ericsson, Microsoft, RIM and Sony won the multi-day auction with a bid of $4.5 billion. According to Reuters , RIM contributed $770 million to the effort while Ericsson is on the hook for $340 million when the deal closes, which is expected to be in the third quarter of this year. What they’ll do with the over 6,000 patents and patent applications covering everything from wireless to optical to semiconductors isn’t immediately clear, but what won’t happen is Google using them as leverage to stave off the patent trolling hordes . Before any of that happens, the sale has to clear US and Canadian courts which is why a joint hearing has been scheduled for July 11th, so expect plenty of words — and probably a few more cross licensing agreements — from the involved parties by then. Verizon dominates ‘Fastest Mobile Networks’ testing, considers calling AT&T to brag
June 28th, 2011
jedwan Not all wireless carriers are created equal, nor for that matter is all 4G — anyone who’s ever swapped networks or done any sort of traveling across the country can tell you that. And while it seems like we have fewer and fewer choices as the days go by, our increasing reliance on mobile devices makes the efficiency of our data delivery all the more important. PCMag invested some serious man / woman-hours for its annual “Fastest Mobile Networks” story, gathering mobile data in 21 cities — running more than 140,000 tests in all. According to the results, Verizon’s LTE rules supreme in pretty much every area tested, save for those “in-between” rural locations, where AT&T nabbed the top spot. Perhaps it’s time to take old “Test Man” out of retirement for celebratory victory lap? WatchESPN app upgraded for iPad, still restricted to just a few TV providers
May 27th, 2011
admin The free WatchESPN app that lets users tune into the family sports channels (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3.com) has been upgraded to version 1.1 on iOS (also available for Android ) and in the process added a new UI designed just for the iPad. It sports a new tablet friendly UI, but the key restriction is still that you need to subscribe to Time Warner Cable, Bright House Networks or Verizon FiOS TV to make use of the service. If you don’t have one of those and need a quick hit of sports TV without your TV, there is an account preview option that gives a few hours of viewing, no authentication necessary. You can download it yourself at the iTunes link below or check out the commercial embedded after the break.
