Re: LG Neon Having Display/Inbox Messaging Problem :(

If your messaging Inbox indicates that there is a message, but when you open it there is nothing, then there was a problem processing a message when it was received.  To remove this: 1) Have someone send you a text message 2) Open the message 3) Select “Options” in the lower right had side of the screen 4) Scroll down to “Delete All” and select it.  That should remove any/all messages and message alerts on your text messaging inbox.  If that doesn’t work try a factory reset.

Groupme’s group messaging app demoed at Google I/O, complete with data / location (video)

Just because Google’s hosting I/O , that doesn’t mean that a few little guys can’t do a bit of announcing on their own. Such is the case with Groupme, who stopped by doing their darnedest to upstage Disco and the host of other group messaging apps flooding app stores these days. The newest build — v2.1.7 — just hit the Android Market over the past few days, bringing with it the ability to share locations /photos and initiate conference calls within the group (amongst other niceties). For now, the service is limited to the US and Canada (though international expansion is “top priority”), and requires that any members have established phone numbers in case the data network fails anywhere in the chain. The good news, however, is that there is a data option, with SMS being used only as a fallback. There’s also some pretty fancy integration with Gigbeat, which is detailed in the video just after the break. Sidekick 4G review

It’s been nearly two years since we last reviewed a T-Mobile Sidekick, and it would be a vast understatement to say things have changed. Then, they were designed by Danger and manufactured by Sharp, and were the messaging phone of choice. Today, following fiasco and failure , the Sidekick empire is in ruins . But good ideas and their originators live on, and several of Danger’s brightest wound up in Mountain View, California. Danger’s Andy Rubin founded Android , design director Mattias Duarte built Honeycomb (after helping craft the Helio Ocean and webOS for Palm) and now, the Sidekick itself has joined its founders in the house that Google built. In many ways, the Sidekick 4G is a return to form, but in an ecosystem filled with similar Android devices, can it stand out from the crowd? India wants to spy on Nokia users, BlackBerry fans no longer feel special

Poor Nokia , between having to abandon its Symbian baby and hawk anachronistic wares at a Microsoft event, it’s had a pretty rough go of it recently. Now India’s Ministry of Home Affairs wants to block the launch of the company’s new push email service until a monitoring system can be put in place. According to The Economic Times , the Department of Telecommunications is being asked to hold back the service until the intelligence community has a way to spy on messages being sent. RIM recently fought a similar battle with the Indian government, as well as those in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates . Looks like the two companies share more in common than just their slip from the top of the smartphone heap. Re: Does the LG Neon II have threaded text messaging?

After a quick Google search, yes, it appears that the Neon II does have threaded text messaging. When I had my original Neon, I never used the threaded version for messaging (except for IMing sometimes). So, unfortunately, I do not know how you would be able to set that up. Try looking through the messaging settings and see what you can find.

Nexus S OTA 2.3.2 update rolling out now, your SMS relations will thank you

Embarrassing SMS misdirect bug on your Android device? Nexus S owners should start checking their phones now for an over-the-air update that’s supposed to fix the problem. It’s being rolled out gradually, so just be patient if it’s not there yet. How will we know the problem’s gone for good? We’ll just assume so until we find out otherwise, in some unfortunate manner. AT&T tweaking messaging plans, killing some upgrade discounts, raising fees and MicroCell pricing

How on Earth have Verizon and AT&T both decided to kill off their upgrade discount programs within a few days of each other? Hard to say, but we’ve gotten a little peek at some new policies designed to “streamline” things that are apparently coming into effect next Sunday, January 23rd — and very few (if any) of them are going to bring a smile to your face. Here’s the gist: There’ll be a new text package of 1,000 messages for $10 with overage at 10 cents apiece. This compares to 5 cents at the 1,500 / $15 level and 10 cents at the 200 / $5 level. Speaking of those other text packages, they’re going away. Both the 200 and 1,500 text plans are goners. Obviously, if you’re already on them, you shouldn’t be affected — you just won’t be able to select them for new plans or changes anymore. Early upgrade pricing on new iPhones — the standard subsidized price plus $200 — will only be available six months into an existing iPhone activation. $50 and $100 discounts on top of subsidized pricing for upgrading customers — similar to Verizon’s recently-killed New Every Two program — are going away. If you’re currently eligible, you’ll still be eligible to take advantage through July 23rd of this year. Family plan add-a-line activation is increasing $10 to $36. International voice roaming prices are changing in 117 countries. That’s a lot of countries! We’re assuming most of those rates are going up, not down, though we don’t have details at this point. Calling to Canada is going from 29 cents per minute to 39 cents. The 3G MicroCell is increasing in price from $149.99 to $199.99, which seems like a really bizarre move to us — hard to say what the motivation is there. Certain “pre-selected” customers will still receive special discount offers for it in the mail, though. Check out full details on the changes in the gallery below. Android text messaging bugs acknowledged, fixes detailed

Hear that thunderous roar off in the distance, growing louder (and more frightening) as it persists? That is the sound of excited Android users emailing us to inform their fave gadget site that Google has just sent users an update to that little embarrassing SMS bug that we reported a while back. There seem to be two distinct issues: users have reported both opening one message to have a completely different message appear, and / or sending an text message to one contact yet having it delivered to another contact entirely. We need only say one word: sexting , to highlight just how dangerous this could be! Google promises us that a fix for these two issues are in the works. In the meanwhile, check out the e-mail below to read their response and work-around. [Thanks Jon, and thanks to everyone else who sent this in!] Continue reading Android text messaging bugs acknowledged, fixes detailed Android text messaging bugs acknowledged, fixes detailed originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 05 Jan 2011 22:21:00 EST.
