Hello, meet the HTC Status. You may know it from such previous names as the ChaCha , ChaChaCha , or our personal favorite, “the Facebook phone that’s not a Facebook phone.” None of these titles made it through AT&T’s gauntlet, however, and that’s a-okay with us — in fact, given its emphasis on social networking, the new name actually makes much more sense. The pictures above and below (the break) display the phone’s AT&T branding, new Facebook button, and rearranged keyboard in the same fashion as the leaked press shot we saw earlier. If there was any doubt that you’ll be seeing this device “in a relationship” with store shelves anytime soon, let this assuage your skepticism. Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro successor out for another casual stroll?
January 9th, 2011
admin Starting to look pretty real, isn’t it? That rumored X10 Mini Pro replacement seems to be gallivanting about in China again; this time it’s not turned on, but the point is that it’s out there and certainly doesn’t seem knockoff-y to be a fake. For what it’s worth, the original X10 Mini series has been one of the few relatively bright points in Sony Ericsson’s Android lineup thus far, so we’re pretty stoked to see that they appear to be taking another shot at the diminutive form factor — let’s just hope those wild GPU results we saw last time hold up by the time it’s at retail. Sony’s PlayStation Phone finally gets Xperia, PlayStation logos
January 5th, 2011
jedwan We’ve heard of the mysterious, still-totally-unofficial PlayStation Phone running Android 2.2 in the past, but we’d also heard it could run 3.0 — thing is, that was back before we knew Gingerbread would be 2.3, so it’s possible that those 3.0 rumors ended up materializing as 2.3. Capiche ? Anyhow, this is the first time we’re seeing the Xperia Play (or Zeus Z1, or whatever it’ll end up being called) running 2.3 in the wild, doing its thing next to a white Xperia X10 to give you an idea of scale. The lucky poster actually has two of the phones available, so they seem to be leaking out of factories in sufficient quantities now to suggest that it’ll likely be announced soon — or so we hope, anyway. CES ? MWC ? We’ll know soon enough. Follow the break for the 2.3 evidence up close. Also notable: these appear to be new hardware builds that feature refined touch surfaces — notice the engraved circles — along with PlayStation-themed and Xperia logos at the bottom (notice the telltale square, triangle, X, and circle shapes). The screen shots call out a model number of R800i, which has previously been associated with the Zeus… so this is definitely lining up nicely. Palm Pre 2 in the wild?
October 14th, 2010
jedwan Okay, now that we’ve got a bigger shot of this thing, we can definitely say that it’s neither a Pre nor a Pre Plus … so assuming it’s not some sophisticated fake, you’re feasting your eyes on Palm’s next-gen model here. Given how close it is to the model it’ll presumably be replacing, we can’t help but feel like the Pre 2 should’ve actually been the phone we call the Pre Plus today — and it should’ve launched six (or more) months ago — but in the event webOS 2.0 doesn’t come to older devices, we suppose that alone will be the impetus some current owners need to upgrade. ‘Course, the 1GHz processor should be nice, too. Hit up the source link for a few more shots of it slinking around the wild; meanwhile, we await Palm’s move on an official announce. Exclusive: Samsung Continuum for Verizon has double the displays, double the fun
October 3rd, 2010
jedwan The Fascinate’s ride at the top of Sammy’s Android lineup for Big Red might be a short one — a very short one. Feast your eyes on this monster, said to be the rumored SCH-i400 Continuum, whose biggest claim to fame would be the addition of a secondary OLED display below the main. What might you use it for? Well, it’s called the “Ticker,” and it’ll show notifications and RSS updates (and judging from that picture, weather conditions, too). Naturally, one of the selling points is that you can access basic phone functionality and information without having to fiddle with the normal UI or turn on that big, power-sapping primary display; in fact, the Ticker will automatically turn on when you grasp the bottom of the phone. The Continuum’s also got a microSD slot on the side (accessible without a battery pull) and a dedicated camera button, and judging from one of the shots we’ve got, it might be Galaxy S -branded. Follow the break for a couple more shots! BlackBerry 9570 is definitely a refreshed Storm2, but is it called the Storm3?
September 25th, 2010
admin RIM, come on, guys, you’re killing us here! We don’t know exactly what the story is yet, but there’s a BlackBerry in the wild now with model number 9570 — and it looks exactly like the existing Storm2 , which lines up nicely with BGR’s insistence earlier this week that the Storm3 is very much a warmed-over Storm2 with BlackBerry 6 and some minor spec bumps. In terms of strategy, we guess this would line up with the Bold 9780 we’ve been seeing around the block, which looks almost exactly like a Bold 9700 — but in terms of customers understanding that this is a new product , it looks like a recipe for disaster. Of course, this might not be known as the Storm3 when (and if) it’s released — they might stick with the Storm2 or call it something like Storm2 Plus or Storm2.5 — which might make more sense since we still don’t know what that other spy shot of a completely different device is. Sure, we have no doubt that a few people would be interested in a refreshed Storm2, but would it be enough to justify the R&D and marketing costs? Samsung SGH-i916 spotted cuddling up to an iPhone 4 in the wilds of Canada
September 24th, 2010
jedwan Unless our eyes deceive us most cruelly, the Samsung phone we see above looks identical to the i917 Windows Phone 7 handset we’ve been seeing all over the place . Curious then that it bears the title of SGH-i91 6 . We can only surmise that there’s some minuscule difference between the two phones, with this i916 seemingly set to ride Rogers airwaves up in Canada — purportedly with none of Samsung’s own branding anywhere on its shell. Another common feature it seems to share with the i917 is an AMOLED screen, judging by the deeper than deep black color it’s capable of pushing out. See a much larger picture of the i916 after the break, and if you want an even better idea of how a 4-inch Samsung handset compares to the iPhone 4, visit our screen comparison test starring the Galaxy S. Is this the Droid 2 World Edition / Droid Pro?
September 23rd, 2010
jedwan If you look quickly, you might not be able to tell that there’s any difference between this thing and the Droid 2 that you can go out and buy today, but this thing is all about subtlety — after all, the only obvious internal change is that it can be used globally. Droid Life claims that we’re looking at the Droid 2 World Edition (or Droid Pro , or whatever the heck it’s called), featuring a pearly white back and a lighter chrome bezel up front; current rumors suggest that this might replace the original Droid 2 altogether, but it’s anybody’s guess until we see some official information. The site is also reporting that the OMAP3630 core seems to be clocked up to 1.2GHz — the plain ol’ Droid 2 settles for a measly 1GHz. All told, this is shaping up to be one of the quickest product revisions in smartphone history, so let’s hope Verizon has the decency to put some sort of upgrade program in place for early adopters. LG’s C300 Town spotted in the wild, textin’ on the cheap
September 7th, 2010
admin It appears we missed an opportunity at IFA to spend some quality time with LG’s recently-outed C300 Town, a dumbphone in every sense of the word whose main mission in life seems to be making your texting an easier task thanks to a full portrait QWERTY keyboard. It’s got a few other tricks up its sleeve, though, namely support for push email, a 3.5mm headphone jack (hopefully accompanied by a decent music player), and a 2 megapixel cam on back to capture those amazing moments with enough clarity (in theory, anyway) to make for a decent MMS. We’re still waiting for details on pricing and availability, but we know that it’ll be available on Orange at some point — appropriate, we must say, considering the orange accents.
