EVO 3D at the FCC redux: now with AWS 3G (update)

Well, what have we here? Another HTC EVO 3D , aka the PG86300, has landed on the FCC’s doorstep — only this time it’s packing radios similar to those seen in the phone’s European edition . This one works on the 1700MHz AWS band, so it appears could be destined for duty in the pockets of T-Mobile’s magenta-clad masses, though we can’t say for sure. However, now that the government’s decreed this EVO’s electronics won’t fry our brains, it shouldn’t be be long before we find out. Update: This FCC filing is most likely for the European EVO 3G, which, like the European Sensation and Flyer, features a tri-band 3G (HSPA+) radio with 2100 / 1700 (AWS) and 900MHz as well as a quadband 2G radio. This means you’ll possibly be able to import the handset unlocked from Europe and use it with 3G on carriers like T-Mobile USA or Wind in Canada. Sorry, AT&T customers, no 3G soup for you! Sharp Aquos Phone SHI12 visits the FCC, flaunts its 3D camera in drawings

It’s rare that we see Sharp’s Aquos phones here in the US, but one model, at least, could be making the long journey stateside. A handset dubbed the CMDA SHI12 just cleared the FCC, and after comparing the drawings in the report to shots of devices already on the market, we’re pretty sure it’s the IS12SH that Sharp announced for Japan a few weeks back. Though the report is typically terse when it comes to specs, it does confirm that the phone has an 8 megapixel 3D rear-facing camera, Bluetooth, FeliCa , GPS, and tri-band CDMA (B0 / B3 / B6) connectivity. And though it’s not in the filing, if this is indeed the IS12SH, then it also has a 4.2-inch qHD display and runs Android 2.3 (or so we’d hope, anyway). Of course, an FCC filing doesn’t mean this will ever reach a carrier or go on sale in the US, period. But in case it does, don’t say we didn’t give you a heads up. HTC Kingdom soars into FCC’s database, WiMAX radio signals a Sprint release

Up until now, all we’ve had to go on were leaked Blurrycam photos and a few morsels ” from the inside .” Now, however, HTC’s going to have an awfully difficult time denying the existence of its so-called Kingdom, known to the FCC as PH44100. The filing itself doesn’t reveal a whole heck of a lot beyond what we already knew — a 4.3-inch qHD display, namely — but the presence of both a CDMA and WiMAX radio assures us that it’ll be heading for Sprint sooner rather than later. A qHD contender for The Now Network? Yes, please. HTC Kingdom soars into FCC’s database, WiMAX radio signals a Sprint release originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 15 Jun 2011 09:33:00 EST. HTC’s ChaCha shuffles its way through the FCC’s clutches with support for AT&T 3G

We know you’ve all been dreaming of the HTC ChaCha ‘s potential launch on AT&T — well, okay, maybe not, but we’re sure a good handful are for sure — and if you’re lucky, that day could be soon given today’s FCC blessing. In case it’s slipped your mind, HTC’s ChaCha was officially unveiled at Mobile World Congress this year with a 600MHz CPU — that’s been bumped to 800MHz since we first saw it — a very winsome and useful QWERTY keypad, a cute little dedicated Facebook button, and of course AT&T 3G bands are now on tap. Sadly, while the FCC does reveal test results, interesting photos of labs studded with foam cones, and even device sticker placement, they don’t tell us when a device will launch or what it’ll ultimately cost. All that good stuff will be hand delivered to you by us, so keep an eye out and we’ll let you know the whole story as soon as we do. Microsoft, Facebook, RIM, and others write to the FCC in support of AT&T-Mobile merger

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has mail. It’s only a page and a paragraph long, but the letter he’s received this week has much gravitas attached to it, coming as it does from a select group of the tech industry’s biggest companies, all of whom are lending their support to AT&T’s proposed acquisition of T-Mobile . Of the eight new proponents of the deal, Microsoft, Facebook and Yahoo form a sub-group of software / web content distributors, whereas Qualcomm, RIM, Avaya, Brocade, and Oracle will have been motivated to speak up because they see the takeover as expanding opportunities to sell their mobile and networking hardware. The entire octet agrees that the melding of AT&T and T-Mobile’s networks into one is a requisite move for broadening mobile broadband availability in the US and for keeping the country competitive with the rest of the world. In their words, “an increasingly robust and efficient wireless network is part of a virtuous innovation cycle.” Virtuous for them, perhaps, but what about consumers faced with an increasingly binary choice of mobile carrier? Who shall protect their virtue? Microsoft, Facebook, RIM, and others write to the FCC in support of AT&T-Mobile merger originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 09 Jun 2011 00:19:00 EST. HTC Sensation goes to FCC for a second helping, flavored with AT&T bands

At the risk of toying with our ever-so-fragile hearts, the HTC Sensation took a second spin through the hallowed halls (or labs) of the FCC . This time, however, it went through with slightly different innards. The same PG58110 was spotted sneaking a visit to the nation’s capital with AT&T frequencies — 850 / 1900, to be specific — in tow, rather than the T-Mobile AWS we saw in the first go-round. Now, before any Big Blue loyalists jump too far out of their chairs, know that this doesn’t guarantee we’ll see an AT&T-branded Sensation adorning the walls of retail stores, but at least there’s a chance we’ll see an unlocked version to purchase on our own at some point. It seems like a lot for a manufacturer to go through when it could’ve just included all of the US bands in one phone , but we digress. Follow the break for another FCC image.
