Wireless phone taxes must go | The Daily Caller

When policymakers enacted cell phone taxes, wireless telephony was seen as the exclusive domain of the wealthy and privileged — think of the stereotypical 1980s Wall Street executive holding a brick-sized cell phone to …

Prototype dual-screened 2-in-1 Android smartpad from Imerj preview

From the front it looks like yet another plain smartphone — dark, nondescript, and maybe a little like an iPhone 4 that’s had its right-most extent sliced off. Pick it up, though, and you realize this little thing isn’t so nondescript. In fact, it feels oddly substantial, with a strange bevel cutting around the edge and a curious amount of heft. And then you flip it open. Suddenly it’s a little tablet, two screens forming one 6-inch slate bisected by a few millimeters of bezel. Shades of the Echo ? Sure, but this is actually a very different device to hold, and a very different device to use. The software customizations built over Android 2.3, the bezel gestures, the proper multitasking, all make this into a unique device that feels incredibly familiar yet altogether different. It’s a prototype device from Imerj and Frog (formerly known as Frog Design ) something that’s months away from production and hasn’t even been blessed with a model designation more specific than “2-in-1 smartpad.” So, is this poncho-clad Phone with No Name a legitimate threat to the established families of devices that own our little wireless San Miguel? Or, will it ride straight off into a sunset of obscurity when it launches? Read on to find out. Infuse 4G coming exclusively to Rogers, its first 21Mbps smartphone

If you’re of the gambling type who wagered on Samsung’s Canadian launch partner for the Infuse 4G , you can settle up those bets: the phone is coming exclusively to Rogers this summer — and it’s shipping with Gingerbread. For those familiar with AT&T’s story , it should come as no surprise that the carrier quickly highlighted the Sammy as its first smartphone capable of pulling in 21Mbps — good luck attaining those numbers, though. Sadly, the release date and price of this 4.5-inch beast remain up in the air, but that might just be an opening for some high-stakes speculation. Sprint / Google Voice integration has major issues, major lack of support

Have you tried Sprint’s new Google Voice integration ? We know a lot of our readers have — and many of them have had problems, writing in to us to express their displeasure. We started investigating and found a hoard of complaints, and the deeper we looked, the more issues we found. To make matters worse, Sprint has instructed its representatives to refer all Google Voice -related questions to the Google Voice Forum, which for reasons that frustrate us as much as you, Google itself seems to have forgotten exists. Join us for a full investigation into the issues, including voicemail security holes, accounts accidentally crippled by Sprint , and calls overseas that’ll leave you swimming in usage fees. Motorola Xoom, Nexus S 4G hitting Sprint in early May?

Sprint service the only thing standing between you and a Motorola Xoom ? Good news — a tipster passed along an internal calendar showing an April 25th employee training date for the Honeycomb tablet, and while we’re still taking it with a grain of salt, it seems like the real deal. If past products are any indication, it should hit Sprint stores a fortnight later, in early May, lining up nicely with those Xoom cases that were spotted a week back. The Nexus S 4G also looks to be slotted for employee training the same day, foreshadowing busy times ahead for the Now Network cashiers. Windows Phone 7 certified microSD cards emerge at AT&T stores: $32 for 8GB

Well, well — what have we here? For avid users of Windows Phone 7 , you no doubt remember the hubbub last year surrounding the so-called difficulties with Microsoft’s latest and greatest mobile OS accepting microSD cards. We’d been pounded with news of “WP7 certified microSD cards,” but even now, they’re more ghost than reality. That said, it looks as if the tables are turning, with an nondescript AT&T store grabbing fresh stock of “certified” 8GB Class 4 microSDHC cards. Based on the packaging, it’s fairly clear that Microsoft’s taking the lead here, but SanDisk has been knighted to provide the hardware. $32 will soon get you a card that doesn’t destroy itself upon insertion in your Samsung Focus, and we’re guessing that they’ll be available to purchase sooner rather than later. So, you sizing up, or what? [Thanks, Anonymous] Windows Phone 7 certified microSD cards emerge at AT&T stores: $32 for 8GB originally appeared on Engadget on Fri, 15 Apr 2011 16:01:00 EST. Samsung’s Droid Charge spotted in leaked promo material, multimedia dock in tow

Like it or not, it’s a Big Red kind of day. The latest VZW news to splash down in our inbox is the shot you see above — the first hint of promotional material surrounding Samsung’s Droid Charge. If you’ll recall, this phone began its (public) life at CES 2011 sans a name , but as a source correctly predicted , the name shown above will be the one that sticks. Proving that the Atrix 4G setup was more than just a fluke, Sammy’s also showcasing a must-have peripheral: the multimedia desktop dock. Said accessory ships with a built-in battery charger and spare cell, but with no apparent signs of a video output, we’re having a hard time getting too hot and bothered.
