Re: using comcast internet

jedwan Brenda, I’m pretty new here and also new with my HTC Inspire, but I might be able to help you with this. From the Home Screen, tap on “Menu” Select “Settings” The second entry from the top is entitled ” Wireless & Networks”. Tap that. Select “Wi-Fi settings” That will show you all of the wi-fi connections available within reach in your area, and you should be able to recognize your wi-fi by its name. I am assumming that you have service from Comcast, and your own home wi-fi router. When you see your wi-fi name, tap that. You will be given an opportunity to connect. You will be asked for your WEP key and you must be sure to select the correct channel ( 1 through 4 ) If in doubt, look at your wi-fi router and see what channel is being used. When properly connected to your wi-fi, you will see a symbol with a dot , half surrounded by parts of a circle. ( reminds me of what it must look like if you’d look directly down from on high on an amphitheater ) This will appear at the top middle ( slightly right of middle ) of your home screen every time you are connected to your wi-fi system. At that point you will not be using your data from your phone provider. I hope this helps. If not, I’m sure that some more qualified individual on the forum will jump in. Good luck. You’ve purchased a great phone. IMO Hanagan Wheaton, IL.
Verizon data charges leak continues, $30 tethering for 4G customers
July 3rd, 2011
jedwan The scan above purports to show a Verizon customer brochure that will appear in stores next Thursday, revealing nothing beyond the detailed leaks we’ve already reported but at least providing some reassuringly crinkled corroboration of the salient details. New customers will barred from the happy land of unlimited data, and will instead have to cough up tiered monthly fees ranging from $10 for 75MB up to $80 for 10GB, plus an extra $20 for tethering rights. In a separate turn to this tale, we hear that customers who want to tether to a 4G handset will have to pay $30 per month to keep Big Red happy. This might come as a shock if you’ve been living it up on the free tethering offer that ends next week, but we had a strong inkling it was coming. Besides, it’s not all bad: those 30 bucks will get you unlimited data on the fastest LTE network around, whereas $20 crew must make do with a mere 2GB monthly. Verizon dominates ‘Fastest Mobile Networks’ testing, considers calling AT&T to brag
June 28th, 2011
jedwan Not all wireless carriers are created equal, nor for that matter is all 4G — anyone who’s ever swapped networks or done any sort of traveling across the country can tell you that. And while it seems like we have fewer and fewer choices as the days go by, our increasing reliance on mobile devices makes the efficiency of our data delivery all the more important. PCMag invested some serious man / woman-hours for its annual “Fastest Mobile Networks” story, gathering mobile data in 21 cities — running more than 140,000 tests in all. According to the results, Verizon’s LTE rules supreme in pretty much every area tested, save for those “in-between” rural locations, where AT&T nabbed the top spot. Perhaps it’s time to take old “Test Man” out of retirement for celebratory victory lap? T-Mobile offers up a year of free data as a gift on Father’s day
June 16th, 2011
jedwan While not even close quite on par with T-Mobile ‘s one-day-only all phones are free event marking last year’s Father’s Day, one year’s worth of free data is still free data — at least, kinda. Of course, we know you’re all asking yourselves: so what’s the rub? Well, to qualify you must sign up for a 2-year stint with a qualifying unlimited talk, text, and data plan, or be 18 months into your current contract and willing to extend it for two more years. This deal will essentially cover the price of the 200MB a month data plan — for exactly half the length of your contract — though, you can step up to any other data plan and apply that $10 a month credit to your bill. So is this a killer deal? Well, if you don’t think Dad’s gonna take advantage of that unlimited calling, then why not ponder a 500 minute talk, text, and data plan and save yourself a further $120 over this celebratory offering? Sprint ready to bump 4G upload speed cap, will raise (Wi)max to 1.5Mbps
June 14th, 2011
jedwan Sprint has been capping its data upload speeds at 1Mbps ever since the dawn of 4G time, but the carrier is ready to welcome in a new era by raising the ceiling — not that Verizon’s sudden and prolific LTE expansion is providing any encouragement, of course. The champion of all things WiMax (at least in the US of A) confirmed with us that its speed bump will indeed be taking place, noting that the maximum will be boosted by 50 percent to 1.5Mbps. The Sprint spokesperson also emphasized that no specific date has been set for this to occur, but should be gracing all of its 4G devices sometime soon. In a day and age where data caps and throttling are becoming the norm, we’re relieved to see a carrier finally run in the opposite direction… regardless of the motives .
