Re: Switch from PURE to INSPIRE or….

Inspire is a nice phone, and if you’ve been an HTC fan for this long (like me) you might want to keep it that way.  Motorola phones have been underwhelming to me for some time now.  While I haven’t handled the Atrix in person, other recent Moto phones just feel cheap, plasticky, and clunky.  And I’ve read comments that the Atrix (while an improvement) is still not up to HTC’s current excellent build quality.  Samsung makes pretty nice hardware, but still not up to par with HTC as far as the phone casing (but the Samsung displays are top notch).  The other rub is that Samsung software support is horrible.  They are the slowest at releasing updates, and TouchWiz stinks compared to Sense (as does Moto Blur).  If you read around, the Galaxy S series (including the Captivate) has had a ton of software problems which cause UI lag and poor GPS reception.  Not sure if there are any issues like this with the new Infuse.  But you might want to investigate it, if you are interested in that device.   Plus, if developer support like mods and custom ROMs are an interest to you, HTC devices  still get the bulk of the attention.

Select AT&T Android devices may get app sideloading as early as today

It’s a classic romantic tale of “network meets OS, network disables OS,” and just like any love story, this one is building up to a happy ending. Fourteen months after AT&T introduced a lineup of crippled Android phones that weren’t allowed to install third-party apps, the carrier extended an olive branch to fans of the OS by quietly slipping the sideloading capability onto the Samsung Infuse 4G ; now, the network is reportedly updating three members of its Android lineup — the HTC Inspire 4G , HTC Aria , and Samsung Captivate — sometime today. We’re sure there were many Atrix users scanning this short list with fingers crossed, but unfortunately your phone did not make the cut this time. No word on why your favs were left out, but at least four devices with Amazon Appstore access is still better than zero. At present time we haven’t seen the updates get pushed to our phones, however, so we’d love to hear if any of you have seen differently down in comments below. HTC Inspire Wifi…Need to input a proxy for work wifi

Hi…     I work at a local high school that has WIFI throughout the buildings that require a proxy to connect to the internet.  I believe I have looked everywhere for a location to input a proxy setting just for the WIFI, but I have not been able to find it.  On my Captivate, the proxy settings were located in the wireless setup, but this is not the same on the Inspire, is it?   Any help would be greatly appreciated!   Don

Re: Transferring music from ITunes to Inspire

Issue resolved! Download complete! I now have all three of my Angry Birds apps successfully downloaded onto my Captivate! Hooray, hurrah!   redpoint73 and Ann154, thank you both so much for your continuous and courteous help by guiding me through this. It is very much appreciated. I am now able to use my phone for so many different things now, rather than just calling and text messaging. When the first Angry Birds app completely downloaded (while I was on Wi-Fi) I was overjoyed that I was finally able to do this. I never thought I could.   Since that first download, I have downloaded a bunch of other cool utility apps/game apps, etc. There sure is a variety to choose from. I also took a look at DoubleTwist, for which this topic was originally about. During that search, there were two “DoubleTwist” apps that were displayed – one that was $4.99, and the other was free. Which one is the correct one to sync my iTunes music to my Captivate, would you say? I would prefer the free one, but if it is necessary to purchase the other one for $4.99, that isn’t too bad.   Thank you both again for your assistance. I am now loving Android more than I did before!

Samsung Galaxy S meets US Cellular: Mesmerize coming on October 27 for $200

Samsung had promised a US Cellular -branded version of its wildly ubiquitous Galaxy S line… and here it is. The so-called Mesmerize name fits in appropriately with some of its contemporaries — Vibrant , Fascinate , Captivate — and looks very much the same, too, featuring the usual 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 5 megapixel camera with 720p capture, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, and both WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0. Unfortunately, it’ll be launching with Android 2.1, it seems, but a Froyo update is promised for “later this year.” Look for it in stores on October 27 for $199 after an $80 mail-in rebate, followed by a couple other Android devices — the LG Apex and Optimus — in November and December, respectively. Follow the break for USCC’s press release.
