So we finally got our dirty little hands on RIM’s new BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone here at BlackBerry World 2011. It’s basically the old Bold but with a capacitive touchscreen and updated innards including a 1.2 GHz CPU, 768 MB of RAM, a GPU , HSPA+, and NFC support. From a design perspective it mixes BlackBerry’s traditional formula with iPhone 4-like materials (that familiar stainless steel rim). It certainly looks premium and feels lovely in the hand, and the keyboard is typical BlackBerry — which is to say fantastic. The screen is beautiful too, perfect to showcase that new BlackBerry 7 OS . Still, we can’t help but think that we’re looking at the device RIM should have shipped last summer instead of the Torch . We’ll have a hands on video up soon but for now take a peek at our gallery below. Update: Our video is now live after the break. BlackBerry Bold Touch makes brief appearance on RIM’s website
April 30th, 2011
admin As you may have have been able to discern from the multitude of leaks that have surfaced over the past few months, RIM is apparently getting set to debut a new touchscreen-equipped BlackBerry Bold at BlackBerry World next week. While still not completely official, that’s now been all but confirmed by RIM itself, which briefly featured the teaser pictured above on its website before pulling it for reasons unknown. As you can see, RIM apparently couldn’t help itself and promised that it will be a “bold step ahead,” and it appears that the phone is unsurprisingly running BlackBerry 7, which until recently was better known as OS 6.1 . Of course, that’s hardly the only news we’re expecting to hear at BlackBerry World, and you can be sure we’ll be there to brave the puns and bring it all to you. Mobilicity launches BlackBerry Bold 9780
January 8th, 2011
admin Mobilicity dropped a new set into the wild today: say hello to the BlackBerry 9780. We’ve seen this device launching all over and it will no doubt bring a smile to the faces of those who’ve picked Mobilicity over the big three up in Canada. The new Bold is running BlackBerry 6, has a 5 megapixel shooter, a Web-Kit browser (huzzah!), and of course quad band GSM and 3G connectivity in the 2100 / 1900 / 900 MHz realm. Sure the $499 price tag looks steep — because of the whole no contract thing — but take heart in the fact you’re under no obligation and that this set costs the same at Bell if you skip the contract. Verizon’s BlackBerry Bold 9650 seems like it’s coming soon (this week?)
May 26th, 2010
admin We know, Tour owners — you’re so ready for a little WiFi in your life that you could quite literally scream. Go ahead, let it out! There, doesn’t that feel better? No? Well, maybe this will: new shots out of The BlackBerry Zone suggest that Verizon sales reps are being actively trained on the Bold 9650 , adding to a trail of evidence over the past month from a variety of sites that the phone is coming shortly. It certainly should, considering the relative importance of BlackBerrys in Verizon’s lineup and the fact that Sprint now has it at retail , and it’s still possible that documentation on CrackBerry last month pointing to a May 27 release — that’s this Thursday, for the record — is accurate. We’ll know soon enough, but in the meantime, treat those old trackballs with care, alright? Virgin Mobile Canada lights up HSPA+ network, iPhone 3GS, Bold 9700 in tow
January 30th, 2010
admin Well, it’s a bit earlier than the invitation to the big launch event suggested , but it looks like Virgin Mobile Canada is now officially part of the HSPA+ club, and it’s now also selling a couple of new phones you might be interested in. Naturally, the network will give you coverage in line with the Bell network that Virgin is piggybacking on (encompassing 93% of Canadians), and you can expect the same download speeds of up to 21.6 megabits per second and upload speeds up to 5.76 — in “ideal conditions,” of course. As expected, the carrier is now also offering a number of new phones that take advantage of the network, not the least of which include the iPhone 3G and 3GS (in all the usual varieties), and the BlackBerry Bold 9700. Hit up the link below to check out the complete lineup, and Virgin’s new smartphone plan offerings, which start at $50 per month Virgin Mobile Canada lights up HSPA+ network, iPhone 3GS, Bold 9700 in tow originally appeared on Engadget on Sat, 30 Jan 2010 10:11:00 EST. AT&T’s BlackBerry Bold 9700 starts shipping out to top bananas
November 17th, 2009
admin Got an AT&T Premier account at your disposal? Does your nine to five require you to wear a suit on every day that ends in “y?” If you’re nodding your head and simultaneously thinking about just how tight that top button is around your neck, there’s a decent chance that you can get AT&T’s version of the BlackBerry Bold 9700 right now. ‘Course, those on T-Mobile have already been enjoying the spoils for a few hours now, but judging by the unboxing shots in the read link, that window of US exclusivity looks to be all but shut. November 16th, 2009

Starting at $199.99 on an Even More plan (which entails a 2-year contract, just so you know), the Bold 9700 can be ordered up from the carrier’s website or be snagged in-store if you prefer to roll that way. It’s also available for $449.99 on an Even More Plus Plan if you’re no fan of attached strings, but something tells us you may want to have a peek at our review before laying down that much cheddar in a moment of weakness. BlackBerry Bold comes to South Korea at long last
July 1st, 2009
jedwan Filed under: Handsets , RIM , BlackBerry OS It’s taken a little longer than they’d hoped , but RIM and SK Telecom will finally begin offering a localized version of the venerable BlackBerry Bold to South Korean customers this week. The move follows last year’s scrapping of policies that all but banned foreign handsets from being offered by local carriers, which could theoretically be a boon to manufacturers in one of the world’s most advanced mobile markets — assuming anyone’s able to crash through the stranglehold that local favorites Samsung, LG, and Pantech have
